We first worked on an offshore renewables project in 2003 – a wind turbine generator that was the world’s largest at that time. Since then, the sector has developed greatly, and our role has grown accordingly: we have advised on dozens of projects of all kinds, including fixed and floating offshore wind and tidal. They include several of the world’s largest offshore energy projects and, as they are situated in waters all around the UK, they involved a number of different consenting regimes and stakeholders.

Our clients cover every part of the sector: generators, developers, investors, funders, supply chain and the public sector. We advise on the whole project cycle from inception through seabed licensing competitions, consenting, planning, property, grid, final investment decision, financial close and into the construction and operational phases as well as equity divestment. We have helped our clients to realise some of the UK and World’s largest offshore energy projects. We have also supported the construction, maintenance and redevelopment of ports and harbour facilities to support offshore renewable energy projects.

We are determined to play our part in helping maximise the contribution of the sector. We frequently provide bespoke training and contribute to industry conferences and consultations/articles. We also work with innovation centres, the relevant trade bodies and Government/Industry collaborations set up to remove barriers, find solutions and unlock the potential of the offshore energy sector.

Our expertise includes advising on:

  • Consenting, planning and the environment
  • Regulatory and competition law
  • Land negotiations and acquisition of offshore and onshore property rights
  • Commercial contracts
  • Contracts for Difference and Power Purchase Agreements
  • Grid arrangements
  • Corporate structuring
  • Project financing
  • Equity divestments
  • OFTO strategy and negotiations
  • Construction
  • Procurement and supply chain
  • Dispute resolution
  • Health and Safety
  • Employment and immigration
