Paul Young

Paul has a varied practice covering all aspects of the infrastructure sector. He advises on a wide range of energy, infrastructure, construction and engineering projects across the UK and internationally. His clients include developers, financiers, public sector and government bodies, major utilities, and contractors. He has particularly strong expertise in energy and renewables, having advised on onshore and offshore wind, battery storage, hydro, solar, CHP, anaerobic digestion and biogas projects.

Paul is an expert in all forms of construction and EPC contracts (including all industry standard forms and bespoke contracts), development agreements, operation and maintenance arrangements, major supply contracts, and ancillary documentation such as bonds, guarantees, collateral warranties and direct agreements.

  • Advising a major contractor in relation to the EPCI contracts for the tier one supply of foundation structures to two offshore wind farms in the UK.
  • Advising a tier one supplier in respect of the tier one supply contracts in relation to the provision to monopiles to five offshore wind projects in the UK and Ireland.
  • Advising a major Korean renewables investor in relation to the acquisition and subsequent build out and operation of onshore renewable assets in the UK.
  • Advising a tier one contractor in relation to a major carbon capture and storage project in the UK.
  • Advising a major European developer in relation to the turbine supply, balance of plant and operation and maintenance agreements for a number of onshore wind farms in the UK.
  • Advising a publicly listed EPC contractor and supplier in relation to several battery storage projects in the UK and internationally; included the drafting and negotiation of the EPC, sub-supply and long-term maintenance agreements for the projects.
  • Advising a UK racing circuit in relation to the design and construction of a world-class go-karting facility.
  • Advising an international drinks company on a range of construction projects, including distillery upgrades and the construction of warehousing.
  • Advising a plc backed developer in relation to the turbine supply, balance of plant, electricals and operation & maintenance contracts for an onshore wind farm in Wales.
  • Advising an Irish renewables developer on the EPC and maintenance service agreements for a number of biomass plants in the UK.
  • Advising a major infrastructure investor on maintenance services agreement for a solar hybrid mini grid project in Sierra Leone.
  • Advising a global integrated energy company in relation to several international projects (across Europe, South America and Africa) including onshore and offshore renewables, and oil and gas.
  • Advising in respect of their international supply arrangements for components and raw materials for the design and production of battery products for the automotive industry in the UK.
  • Advising a major solar developer in relation to the main EPC contract for the construction and completion of 2 substations as part of a multibillion-pound solar development in Turkey.
  • Advising a global energy solutions provider on several UK and international energy projects including in relation to (1) the EPC contract and ancillary agreement for a hybrid power project in Western Australia and (2) the EPC and O&M arrangements for the World's largest off-grid hybrid power system for a mine in Mali.
  • Advising a Uk investment manager in relation to the EPC contracts, supply agreements, O&M arrangements and master services agreements for a range of energy projects in the UK including several gas peaking projects, two ground mounted solar projects, and a combined heat and power project.
  • Advising a European investor in relation to the design and construction of a major waste to energy facility in the UK including the drafting of the EPC contract and O&M contract.
  • Advising a Spanish renewable energy producer on their UK template EPC contracts for Solar PV.
  • Advising a European renewables developer on the adoption agreements with SHE-T for the adoption of contestable works relating to transmission connected renewables assets.
