Richard Jones

Richard is a very experienced specialist pensions lawyer. He advises trustees of major occupational pension schemes and corporate bodies on all aspects of pensions law and is a full member of the Association of Pension Lawyers. 

He has considerable experience in advising pension scheme trustees on the legal aspects of investment matters, including advising on risk-transfer transactions, investment management agreements, custodian agreements and pooled fund documentation. He also has particular expertise in public sector pension matters, including advising on Local Government Pension Scheme admission agreements and dealing with pensions issues under outsourcing contracts and TUPE transfers.

  • Advising the trustee of The Weir Group Pension and Retirement Savings Scheme on a pensioner buy-in transaction with Legal & General, structured under a framework agreement, involving illiquid assets and a deferred premium agreement.
  • Advising the corporate trustee of a large, multi-sectional, defined benefit pension scheme on all legal matters, including investment management agreements, Scheme documentation (including a consolidation of the Scheme Rules) and advice in connection with strategic planning and pathway to potential de-risking transaction.
  • Advising a local authority on pensions law and pension fund governance issues in connection with the Local Government Pension Scheme (Scotland) (“LGPS”) including on a project which involved potentially significant changes to pension fund governance under the LGPS.
  • Advising the Trustees of the Miller Group Limited Pension Scheme in connection with an investment in Apollo Multi-Credit Fund (LUX) SCSp SICAV-RAIF, a Luxembourg limited partnership, involving arranging for and co-ordinating legal advice from a correspondent Luxembourg firm.
  • Advising the Trustee of the ScottishPower Pension Scheme in relation to a longevity swap transaction, structured as an insurance policy.
