Petra leads our Rural Property and Business Team. Having worked in the rural sector for over two decades, she is one of its leading legal advisors in Scotland. While she specialises in succession-planning and partnership matters, she also advises on a wide range of property transactions, bank security work, agricultural holdings, and renewable projects .

Accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a Specialist in Agricultural Law, Petra has a deep understanding of the entire sector, and is often asked to speak at events or write articles. 

  • Advising on succession-planning for family farming businesses, particularly in connection with the Inheritance Tax rules announced in the October 2024 Budget Statement.
  • Advising landowners on a number of large-scale renewable development option and leases throughout Scotland.
  • Advising on a number of complex partnership disputes and associated asset reorganisations.
  • Advising on Security work for a number of agricultural lending institutions.
  • Advising Executors in a number of large farming executry estates in relation to discussions with HMRC on the availability of Agricultural and Business Property Relief.
