Ashley is a Senior Associate in the firm’s Planning and Environment team. She specialises in planning, environmental and public law matters, predominately in the renewable energy and electricity sectors. 

She has a particular interest in contentious planning and consenting matters involving inquiries, statutory appeals and judicial review. Ashley also frequently advises developers and statutory undertakers on their consenting and land acquisition strategies, environmental impact assessments, habitats and species matters including HRA. 

In the public law sphere, Ashley has specialist expertise in Scottish parliamentary processes and on the legality and interpretation of legislation – which has included appearing before the Scottish Parliament to give evidence on legislative proposals.

  • Advising on large-scale strategic energy projects, including overhead lines, underground cables, substations and converter stations.
  • Advising an offshore wind developer on its application for a development consent order for its 1.5GW offshore wind farm.
  • Advising an offshore developer on the compulsory acquisition aspects of its 4.1GW offshore wind farm.
  • Advising statutory undertakers in judicial review proceedings and statutory appeals. 
  • Advising on ports and harbours matters, including interaction between marine and terrestrial consenting regimes. 
  • Advising on environmental consenting, environmental appeals and operational issues relating to environmental matters, including advising operators in the energy and aquaculture sectors.
  • Advising a Scottish membership organisation on amendments to the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, including appearing before the Scottish Parliament to give evidence on their effect.
