It is now just over three years since the competitive retail market was opened in Scotland and we were very pleased to have the opportunity to look back at the market opening project and reflect on lessons that we and the Water Industry Commission for Scotland (WICS) have learnt about what worked and what didn't.

We hope that this overview will be a positive contribution to ongoing discussions as regards the development of competitive markets in this sector and sparks some thoughts for other industries as well.
