We take a proactive approach to our colleagues’ development. We rigorously evaluate each colleague’s training needs, based on the information we gather via the annual performance appraisal, and assess these on an ongoing basis. Colleagues also have the opportunity to make their own requests for training on an ad-hoc basis.

Partnering with a number of external trainers, we provide a suite of courses catering to all colleagues. By gathering feedback for each of our courses, we are able to ensure that the training is as tailored as possible and delivered to the highest standard.

In addition to running various external trainer-led sessions, we also offer our employees a range of tailored in-house programmes, a selection of which you can read about below:

Core Skills Programme

This course is directed at solicitors at 0-3 years PQE. The programme aims to provide each participant with the skills required to carry out their existing role to a very high standard with a view to providing a solid basis for professional/career development.

Senior Legal Staff Away Day

In addition to a range of internal training courses, we also run an away day to encourage our associates to get to know one another on both a personal and professional level, fostering cross-selling of legal services and enhancing communication among practice areas.

Trainee PEAT 2 Training

The firm is an authorised provider of Trainee Continuing Professional Development (TCPD) and provides a comprehensive training programme over the duration of the two-year traineeship. To find out more about our trainee development, please click here.

Management services

Management services colleagues can also take advantage of a wide range of internal training, and submit their own training requests on an ad-hoc basis. Topics covered include presentation skills; communication and delegation skills; and management and mediation skills.

Investors in People and Investors in Young People

We have been successfully accredited and reaccredited as Investors in People (IIP) and Investors in Young People (IIYP), in August 2008, September 2011 and August 2014. In April 2018, we were successful in gaining our Gold award. Having achieved such a highly commended status for IIP and IIYP, we are committed to being an employer of choice and demonstrating our ongoing commitment to the development of our employees by:

  • developing strategies to improve the overall performance of the firm;
  • taking action to improve the performance of the firm; and
  • evaluating the impact on the performance of the firm.

Mentoring schemes

We offer firm-wide mentoring to our colleagues, both legal and non-legal. This is entirely voluntary, however the uptake and success in the past has been very high and mentoring has been found to have significant benefits.
