Susie is a Senior Associate in the private wealth and tax team, based in our Glasgow office. She advises individuals and families on a broad range of personal legal matters, specialising in estate planning and the creation and administration of trusts.
She has extensive experience in managing estates on death, with an emphasis on complex, high-net-worth estates, and has a particular interest in complex inheritance tax matters and contentious executries. As well as drafting wills, trusts, and powers of attorney, Susie also has considerable experience in advising family businesses on succession issues.
She has a keen interest in charity law and advises several Scottish charities, with a particular focus on charitable governance and regulatory issues. She also has experience of setting up, merging and winding up charities; and dealing with a wide range of regulatory matters.
- Advising a charitable body on a significant governance restructuring exercise that included redrafting constitutional documents, engagement with the Privy Council in terms of regulatory considerations, drafting policy documents integral to the reorganisation and project managing the delivery of documents within tight timescales.
- Advising ultra-high-net-worth families (with family business connections) on personal tax- and succession-planning.
- Administering complex Scottish estates including lengthy negotiations with HMRC, working closely with our expert rural and corporate teams to ensure a smooth transition of assets and becoming the key contact for the family during the estate administration process.
- Being the trusted legal advisor for a high-net-worth family, across the generations, including providing succession planning advice together with administering family trusts and executries.
