Nigel Sievwright

Nigel’s focus is on advising stakeholders on infrastructure projects. His expertise covers the design, build, finance and maintenance of projects of many types including renewable energy, energy-from-waste, health, accommodation, street lighting, wastewater and roads.

He is familiar with all the common procurement models (e.g. PPP, PFI, hub, NPD and their variants) and funding methods, including bank debt and bond issues.

Dual-qualified in Scotland and England & Wales.

 

  • Advising Balfour Beatty Investments as sponsors of the Birmingham New Hospitals Project, the Pinderfields and Pontefract Hospitals PFI Project and the Fife General Hospital and Maternity Services PPP Project. 
  • Advising the project company on operational matters on numerous healthcare, education and streetlighting PPP projects.
  • Advising the funder of a number of hub DBFM healthcare and education projects.
  • Advising the funder of the £43 million Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service National Centre NPD Project.
  • Advising a health board in connection with levying deductions and possible termination of an operational healthcare project.
  • Advising the senior lenders on the funding of a Scottish schools PPP project and subsequently on operational matters, including amendments to the arrangements on insurance cost sharing.
  • Advising in connection with the secondary market sale of an interest in a Scottish NPD roads project.
  • Advising the funders on several street lighting PFI/PPP projects.
  • Advising the sponsor on the Glasgow Kennedy Street Student Accommodation Project.
  • Advising the O&M contractor in connection with O&M contracts and managed service agreements for a number of solar and wind farms.
  • Advising the SPV on heat offtake arrangements for an energy-from-waste project.
  • Advising the project company on complex contractual arrangements to manage defect related issues in an operational healthcare project.
  • Advising a local authority on the procurement of hard facilities management partners for the authority’s non-domestic estate.
  • Advising Acciona Industrial S.A. on the NESS Energy from Waste Project procured by Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray Councils.  
  • Advising on the O&M agreements for a number of energy-from-waste facilities. 
  • Advising the project company on the settlement agreements between project participants and arrangements to carry out remedial works in operational hospitals.

Nigel recently advised the funders of the New Centre for the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, Phase 1 of the redevelopment of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital and the prospective funders of the Balfour Hospital Orkney NPD Project. As well as advising on significant variations to health and education projects, Nigel is currently advising on projects procured under Scotland’s HUB initiative.
