Fiona leads our Restructuring and Business Advisory team. Known for building strong relationships, and for finding innovative solutions and approaches, she advises businesses of all sizes on the full range of restructuring, turnaround and insolvency matters.
She is often asked to provide strategic advice to directors of distressed corporate entities and groups; to act for stakeholders in relation to distressed counterparties; and to advise insolvency practitioners. She has worked in many sectors, including energy, retail, hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, education and charities.
- Advising a Scottish manufacturing group on restructuring and insolvency options, resulting in the solvent sale of certain group companies.
- Providing Scots law advice to a group operating in the energy sector on contingency planning options, including a restructuring plan.
- Advising a lender in relation to strategy for maximising its recover in relation to a distressed lend in the retail sector.
- Acting for trustees of a number of different charities that were facing financial challenges, guiding them through their statutory duties and working with them to define options and implement the optimal solution.
- Acting for His Majesty’s Treasury in drafting a set of Scottish special administration regime rules.
- Acting for the administrators of a company which owned and operated a shopping centre in respect of a sale of that asset.
- Providing advice to a variety of institutional landlords of high street retailers and restaurant chains and regularly advising on the implications of tenant insolvency, particularly in relation to company voluntary arrangements, restructuring plans and administration.
- Providing Scots law advice to a group of companies on complex multijurisdictional restructuring strategy and contingency planning.
- Providing advice to numerous companies in relation to directors’ duties and options available.
- Fiona also regularly delivers bespoke training to clients on a range of topics including issues to consider in a restructuring, insolvency processes, counterparty risk, issues in insolvency, directors' duties and the Moveable Transactions (Scotland) Act 2023.
