Our energy team has been embedded in the sector for decades, and we have advised on all of the significant reforms to the UK electricity market in that time. This gives us a valuable additional perspective, as does the fact that we advise both regulators and industry participants.

Our expert sector-specialist lawyers give our clients an edge by providing strategic and practical advice on their markets, the regulatory framework, and a wide range of other issues.

Energy markets

We help our clients to operate more successfully in both the retail and wholesale energy markets – across the full spectrum from fundraising and corporate finance to power station development. We advise on the intricacies of cross-border trading and energy settlement systems. And we help our clients to deal with all manner of contracts, governance and litigation.

Electricity transmission

Transmission systems are evolving rapidly, primarily due to a rapidly changing electricity network and increasing investment to meet net zero goals. This creates opportunities for businesses who are able to apply new approaches to electricity transmission, distribution and generation. Because we have in-depth knowledge of the regulatory framework and we understand the value of original thinking, we can help our clients to do just that.

We also assist investors in offshore transmission assets, and lenders providing senior debt to offshore renewables projects.

Water

Investment in the water industry is constantly evolving, creating opportunities and challenges for businesses and regulators alike. We advise on a wide range of regulatory issues and major projects across the water sector, both in the UK and internationally, for a variety clients including a number of leading water companies. Taking a practical and commercial approach, we help them to navigate issues of political or ethical sensitivity, as well as operational and infrastructure design.

Waste and resource management

As businesses diversify and compete for renewable energy opportunities, energy from waste and resource management becomes ever more important.

Organisations, in both the public and private sector, are looking for ways to reach their commercial goals and meet their regulatory obligations. We help them by providing expert, practical and strategic advice on all aspects of waste and resource management.
