Richard specialises in the property aspects of energy projects, and over 20 years of experience in the sector. Acting for developers, funders and investors, he has experience across a range of technologies, including wind (both onshore and offshore), solar, hydro, battery storage, gas peaking, energy from waste, large scale biomass, district heating, electrical vehicle infrastructure, nuclear, hydrogen, data centres private wire/corporate PPA projects and grid infrastructure.
He also carries out general commercial property work, particularly in the development and infrastructure and property finance sectors.
He is dual-qualified in Scotland and England & Wales.
- Advising Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners on the real estate aspects of the acquisition and development of the Pentland floating wind demonstrator project and in the Pentland Firth.
- Advising the bidders on the real estate aspects of the Crown Estate Scotland, and INTOG bidding rounds and the Crown Estate (Round 4) offshore wind bidding rounds and providing ongoing real estate for successful bidders.
- Advising the bidder on real estate diligence on the acquisition of majority stake in test and demonstrator floating offshore wind projects in the Celtic Sea.
- Advising SSE in securing land rights required for the onshore transmission infrastructure in respect of Beatrice offshore windfarm.
- Advising Fablink on securing land rights with the island of Alderney on the subsea interconnector between Britain and France.
- Acting for Teindland Windfarm (European Energy/ Locogen) in securing main site option agreement and oversail option agreements in relation to Teindland wind farm.
- Advising 3R Energy on securing land rights for the development of the Hagshaw Energy Cluster Western Expansion, comprising wind, solar, battery and green hydrogen across multiple landowners.
- Acting for Rotherhull District Council (as landowner) on providing land rights for the development of Scout Moor wind farm extension.
- Acting for a US investment fund on the acquisition of a portfolio of 32 solar farms across England and Wales worth over £500 million.
- Acting for BayWa on the financing and subsequent sale of Broken Cross wind farm.
- Advising Blue Energy on the acquisition and subsequent disposal of Douglas West Wind Farm in South Lanarkshire, then acting for Greencoat Investments as the new owners of the project in exercising the wind and substation option agreements and perfecting the land rights necessary to build out the project.
- Advising Blue Energy on the development of High Constellation Wind Farm on the Kintyre Peninsula and on the property and planning aspects of the subsequent disposal to BayWa, then acting for BayWa on the exercise of the option agreement and entry to lease.
- Advising Blue Energy on the development of Cloud Hill Wind Farm near Sanquhar, Dumfries & Galloway and the property and planning aspect of the subsequent disposal to BayWa. Then acting for BayWa on follow-on development aspects of the project, including securing a mineral lease, pinch point agreements and noise agreements.
- Acting for EnergieKontor in securing oversail option agreements for Lairg II, Strathrory, Garbet and Overhill wind farms.
- Advising BIA Power on the development and partial sale of their BESS and Solar UK portfolio.
- Advising Intelligent Land Investements on the development of battery storage, pumped storage hydro and data centre sites in Scotland.
- Acting for RWE in securing oversail option agreements in relation to Strathy Wood, Clachaig Glen, Camster, Eredine and Stemster wind farms.
