Fraser Mitchell

Fraser advises on all aspects of planning, environmental, compulsory purchase, and roads law. This includes advising on planning strategy and applications, the review of environmental impact assessment, planning appeals, the negotiation of planning agreements, and legal challenges in the Court of Session.

His particular focus is on housebuilding and renewables. Fraser advises national housebuilders across the country on strategic and short-term sites. He also advises developers on the consenting process for renewable energy projects, primarily onshore wind farms and pumped storage hydro schemes.

  • Advising Taylor Wimpey on their development sites at Hopefield in Bonnyrigg, Letham Mains in Haddington, Greenlaw Mains near Penicuik, and Sheephousewells in Fife.
  • Advising Guild Homes on their development sites in Angus, in particular their proposed housing site at Turfbeg West, Forfar.
  • Advising Advance Construction across a range of residential development sites in the central belt including Lower Bathville in West Lothina, Carsebridge in Alloa, and Muirhead in North Lanarkshire.
  • Advising Aldi on planning matters throughout Scotland, including the recent approval of a new main store at Necessity Brae in Perth. 
  • Advising British Land on planning matters across Fort Kinnaird, Glasgow Fort, and Inverness Retail Park.
  • Advising ILI in connection with their pumped storage hydro schemes, including the consented Red John (Loch na Cathrach) at Loch Ness and the proposed Balliemeanoch Scheme at Loch Awe.
  • Advising RWE throughout the compulsory purchase process in connection with Strathy Wood Wind Farm in Thurso.
  • Advising Galileo in connection with the proposed Corr Cnoch Wind Farm in Argyll and Bute.
  • Advising Goldman Sachs International on the consenting framework for the storage of chemicals at various sites throughout Scotland.
  • Acting for Wheatley Homes in the successful defence of a judicial review raised against Glasgow City Council’s decision to grant a negative screening opinion in connection with the demolition of the Wyndford Estate in Glasgow.
  • Advising The City of Edinburgh Council on the Granton Phase 1 Compulsory Purchase Order 2023.
