Craig Whelton

Craig is Tier 1 ranked for planning law in the Chambers Legal Directory and specialises in the consenting of large scale developments across the UK. 

Craig advises residential developers on development plan and site promotion, all aspects of the application process including consultation, EIA and planning gain. 

Craig has advised on some of the largest and most contentious residential developments in Scotland, including appearing as planning inquiry advocate in appeals across the UK. 

He was lead planning lawyer on the first virtual planning inquiries held in Scotland and England during lockdown, both of which were for residential schemes, and to Gladman and Elan Homes on their successful judicial review actions in respect of the “tilted balance” and SPP cases. 

Craig is a member of the Planning Committees of both the Scottish Property Federation and the Law Society as well as advising the Scottish Land Commission on planning reform and human rights law.
