Abby has a dual role in Shepherd and Wedderburn, acting as both a Senior Associate and a Senior Professional Support Lawyer in the Banking and Finance team.

As a Senior Associate, Abby specialises in the regulation of financial products and services in the UK. She has extensive experience of assisting both regulated and non-regulated businesses in navigating the perimeter of UK financial services regulation, and on the interpretation and application of the Financial Conduct Authority’s rules and guidance.

A significant part of Abby’s practice includes reviewing and reporting on mortgage, retail, business, credit card and personal loan terms and conditions from both a regulated and a non-regulated perspective, as well as preparing and updating Scottish standard loan documentation for major UK banks, building societies, financial institutions and specialised lenders.

In her role as a Senior Professional Support Lawyer, Abby supports the wider Banking and Finance team with research and training. She also monitors key legal developments and maintains the team’s knowledge resources.

Abby has acted for sellers, bidders, purchasers and funders on some of the most prominent loan book trading deals in recent years, with an extensive experience of loan file due diligence and advising on both performing and non-performing residential mortgage loan books in the context of loan portfolio sales and acquisitions. Her experience extends to property finance, where she regularly prepares security documents for both lenders and borrowers, as well as acting on a range of refinancing and restructuring transactions in both the cross-border and Scottish markets. 

A significant part of Abby’s practice includes preparing and updating standard loan documentation for major UK banks, building societies and financial institutions for their use in Scotland, as well as drafting and reviewing mortgage product, credit card and personal loan terms and conditions from both a regulated and non-regulated perspective. Abby’s experience of financial products and services has also seen her advise on a range of consumer credit issues, and she regularly provides lenders with enforceability, exemption and borderline analysis of applicable consumer regulation. Abby also advises on a breadth of wider regulatory issues, with a particular recent focus being compliance with payment services and ringfencing legislation.
