Shepherd and Wedderburn has acted for the shareholders of Comet Solutions Holdings Limited in its sale to Merkle Inc, America’s, largest independent data-driven performance marketing agency.

Specialising in CRM, marketing, and decision management solutions, Comet’s technology services are designed to ensure that marketing reaches the right customers at the moments that most influence their decisions. Already a market leader in Europe and the US, the company has built up an impressive client roster  which includes BT, TUI Group, American Express, and HMRC as well as many other international clients.  As a result of the acquisition, Comet’s  300 staff and management team will join US- based Merkle.

Sam Taverner, Group MD, Comet Global Consulting, said:  ”Merkle is a great fit for us. They are tech-savvy digital marketers who understand the importance of what Comet does – helping large enterprises build relevant and valuable interactions with their customers. We are very excited about the new capabilities our combined organisations are going to be able to offer our clients.”

Commenting on Shepherd and Wedderburn’s involvement in the sale, former Group MD, Ian Hopkinson, said that he was “…truly astounded by the professionalism and commitment” shown by the Shepherd and Wedderburn team, which was led by Corporate Partner, Danny Lee.

“This deal,” says Danny Lee, “further underlines Shepherd and Wedderburn’s credentials in the buoyant UK media and technology sector, having already acted for a number of ambitious and successful companies on M&A transactions during the past 12 months, including FanDuel, Siemens and iomart.”

The firm is sponsor to this year’s Digital Technology Awards which showcase and reward innovation, expertise and ambition in Scotland’s flourishing technology sector. Of the fourteen award categories, Shepherd and Wedderburn will sponsor a new award: CEO of the Year.
