Shepherd and Wedderburn Winners for Charity

Law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn has been crowned Scotland’s brainiest business after winning the Marie Curie Glasgow Brain Game.

Celebrating its tenth year, the fundraising quiz and dinner took place on Thursday 6 October at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. 450 guests joined hosts Judith Ralston and John Beattie raising a record-breaking £136,000 for Marie Curie, the terminal illness charity.

The team of ten staff from Shepherd and Wedderburn battled it out against 43 other teams beating off stiff competition from The Voodoo Rooms in second place and third place recipients STV. The event was organised by a committee* chaired by Carole Haddow, Director at Penhurst Associates, and sponsored by Arnold Clark, WH Malcolm Group, McTear’s Auctioneers and The Leven Car Company.

Georgina Bushell, Marie Curie Partnerships Manager said: “Every year the competition is fierce and it’s a hugely entertaining night with even more teams vying for the trophy. The live organ music round is a particular highlight. Shepherd and Wedderburn are worthy winners and a huge thank you to them and all our guests. Their support equates to seven families receiving a year of vital care and support from our Marie Curie Nursing Service.”

Andrew Hall, team captain and partner at Shepherd and Wedderburn said: “ It was great to be part of this thoroughly enjoyable event, particularly so when it raised so much money (£135,000) for such a truly deserving cause. Team Shepherd and Wedderburn is delighted to have won. Undoubtedly the help of our guests on the night - EY, Wylie & Bisset, Scottish Power, Miller Homes and Land Synergy Developments – pushed us forward to victory.”
