Shepherd and Wedderburn short-listed for Best Leadership Team of the Year Award

Shepherd and Wedderburn’s management team has been short-listed for ‘Best Leadership Team of the Year’ in The Lawyer Business Leadership Awards 2015, following the firm’s successful integration of Tods Murray, the 158 year old Scottish law firm it acquired in October last year.

The Lawyer Business Leadership Awards seek to recognise excellence in business services individuals and teams in legal services providers across the entire legal market. Judges were looking for operational excellence, examples of creativity and original thinking.

Perhaps what was most remarkable about the integration operation, was that its successful completion was achieved in just three months. During that period, clients together with attendant data were migrated to Shepherd and Wedderburn.  In all, 3,500 clients, 6,800 matters, 2.1 million documents and 8,500 contacts and records were transferred. While at the same time, partners and staff were relocated to the Edinburgh and Glasgow offices of Shepherd and Wedderburn.

In evidence throughout the integration process was the adeptness of the leadership team at balancing of the business of managing the day-to-day operation of an existing 380 headcount firm, with the need to ensure continuity of services to all clients.

The successful acquisition has had enormous effects on the business. Within a period of seven months, Shepherd and Wedderburn transformed from a firm with revenues of circa £38m to annualised revenues of £52m.  It now has a headcount of 500.

The winners will be revealed at The Lawyer Business Leadership Awards ceremony held on Tuesday 22nd September 2015 at the Grange, St Paul’s Hotel in London.
