Transparency of land ownership – client win for Shepherd and Wedderburn

Shepherd and Wedderburn provided pro bono advice to Global Witness, the international NGO, on the European Convention of Human Rights and EU Treaty implications of Global Witness’ proposal of having robust transparency provisions in the Land Reform (Scotland) Bill.  

The Scottish Government announced this week that it intends to establish a public register of beneficial ownership of land in Scotland.  This brings the Bill into closer alignment with Global Witness’ proposals and is a great result for our client who welcomed the statement.
