Shepherd and Wedderburn advises BergenOil AG on investment in Aurora Petroleum Energy Resources Limited

Leading UK law firm Shepherd and Wedderburn provided Scots law advice to BergenOil AG, a longstanding client of German firm Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek.

Dirk Kolvenbach, a commercial lawyer at Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek, instructed Shepherd and Wedderburn to provide advice on the Scots law aspects of a significant investment by their client in Aurora Energy Resources Limited. Aurora is a private oil and gas exploration company based in Aberdeen which holds Petroleum Exploration and Development Licence (PEDL) 164 covering 100km2 of West Lancashire and Merseyside. Aurora is engaged in the exploration for shale gas in the UK, based on hugely successful analogues from the United States.

Dirk Kolvenbach commented: “This was a new type of investment for our client into a highly complex and regulated environment. We were delighted with the commercial and legal advice that we got from Paul Hally’s energy team at Shepherd and Wedderburn. It meant that the client went in with their eyes open, understanding the nature of the investment and opportunity and risks.”

Finance and Restructuring Partner and Chairman, Paul Hally who led the Shepherd and Wedderburn team said: “We were delighted to be able to support Dirk in such a frontier area of investment activity in the energy sector. It is another very tangible example of Shepherd and Wedderburn’s ability to provide international coverage for clients in leading industrial sectors globally and to act in concert with referring firms.”

Aurora Energy Resources Limited and its shareholders were represented by Stronachs.
