This seminar will give an overview of the key issues facing the construction industry in Scotland and the UK in 2012, covering:
- The state of the current market. We will look at the key challenges and opportunities ahead in the industry, including market trends in construction procurement, the likely effect of the Government's Construction Strategy, including the Green Deal, and the potential impact of constitutional change.
- Recent key cases and legislative developments affecting the industry. These will include the latest position on procurement challenges, liability of professionals, enforcement and termination of bonds, letters of intent, insolvency events and the courts' approach to dealing with construction claims.
- The restricted availability of finance for construction projects, both public and private sector. We will look at the sources of finance to the industry, funders' key requirements and the future of public infrastructure funding and investment.
- Building Information Modelling. The UK Government's Construction Strategy requires the use of BIM on all public projects by 2016. This will require a shift in approach in the industry, and will fundamentally change the construction process. We will look at the legal issues relating to adopting BIM and the challenges ahead, including BIM protocols, how they will work and what you need to know.
The seminar is intended to provide delegates not just with an understanding of the legal issues but also to provide practical guidance for those operating in all sectors of the industry.
This seminar will be of interest to clients (public and private sector), contractors/sub-contractors, consultants, tenants, investors, funders and insolvency practitioners.
