On 14 February 2006, MPs in Westminster took advantage of a free vote to steer England onto the same path as Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.  By 384 votes to 184, MPs rejected proposed exceptions to the ban for private clubs and pubs not serving food, opting instead for a complete ban on smoking in public places and workplaces.  It is thought that the Health Bill might introduce the ban in England as early as summer 2007.
