On 9 October the DTI published its annual review of companies for the year ended 31 March 2006 which is required to be published in terms of S729 of the Companies Act 1985.  It is intended that this provision will be repealed and not replaced by the Companies Bill.

Amongst other things, the Report contains some interesting statistics which include details of the increase in the number of companies on the register on a region-by-region basis; an analysis of the number of companies by reference to issued share capital; a list of all companies incorporated this year with an issued share capital in excess of £50m; an analysis of director disqualifications; and details of the number of companies incorporated outside Great Britain which have established a place of business here.

The report can be accessed from the DTI website at www.dti.gov.uk/files/file34501.pdf.
