It is generally accepted that some men and women can find the recruitment
process increasingly difficult in their later years, however Sainsbury's has
recently announced a new recruitment drive which will create 10,000 jobs by
the end of the year – exclusively for the over 50s.

Sainsbury's blatantly states that school leavers 'need not apply', explaining
that the company requires a more mature candidate. The recruitment drive is
extensive and vacancies range from HR and customer services to jobs on the
shop floor. Although the movement has been praised by pressure groups such
as 'Help the Aged' and 'Age Concern', this type of positive discrimination
will not be possible next year, with the introduction of age discrimination
legislation covering both young and old workers – watch this space for
further details.
