The Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2005 look set to come
into force on 1st July 2005. The regulations implement an EU directive aimed
at standardising access to public sector information across Europe and requires
public bodies to list the information that they hold, and provide online standard
licensing agreements. These agreements would detail conditions applicable to
the re-use, although they are not intended to cut across copyright.

An Office
of Public Sector Information (OPS) has been established to co-ordinate policy
standards on the re-use of public sector information. The OPS is attached
to the Cabinet Office and under the ministerial control of the Parliamentary
Secretary
at the Cabinet Office.
