Ofwat has published its annual report on the complaints it has received under the Competition Act. Ofwat is a designated regulator under the Competition Act and so, like Ofgem in the electricity and gas markets, is the first port of call for parties who suspect anti competitive agreements or abuses of dominance in the English and Welsh water market. Ofwat received 15 complaints under the Competition Act in 2005/06, the majority of which concerned water undertakers' behaviour in relation to infrastructure or use of tinkered waste. This year's report is supplemented with a note on Ofwat's activities in relation to handing disputes and queries under the water supply licensing regime. This part of the report shows that the largest number of enquires come from business customers who wanted to check if they were eligible to switch suppliers.
