The Scottish Executive is expected to launch a consultation on the development
of a Scottish strategy for the management of public records. The consultation,
(which was due to commence on 11 May, but has had to be delayed while Ministers
considers the issue further), forms part of a wider Scottish Executive strategy
to overhaul existing public records legislation.

The objectives of the wider strategy include:

 

  • Establishing measures for managing records held and created by Scottish public
    authorities in the 21st century
  • Ensuring that appropriate records are
    kept
  • Ensuring that records are maintained, preserved and accessible
    to the public.
