Six cleaners working for Diageo in Fife were awarded more than £15,000 from their employer Eurest this week, in settlement of an equal pay claim. They made their claim when employed by the subcontractor Mitie Olscot where they were paid 42p less per hour than their male colleagues.  A settlement has been agreed by Eurest and the women's solicitor Margaret Gribbon has commented that "There was no question that these workers were being paid less simply because they were women. There was no credible legal defence open to the employers to justify the wage differences and this is reflected in the final settlement agreement".
