Baroness Margaret Prosser, Chair of the Women and Work Commission has indicated
that all the evidence suggests that women switching to part-time work resulted
in damage to their career prospects.

Despite, 35 years passing since the introduction of Equal Pay legislation,
it appears that many employers remain unaware of their legal duty to pay the
same for work of equal value as well as paying men and women equally for performing
the same jobs. The Trade and Industry Secretary, Patricia Hewitt, has labelled
the financial services sector as one of the worst offenders in this respect.
However, Ms Hewitt also stressed that the government was more concerned with
encouraging good practice rather than 'trying to attach labels'.
